Happy Chinese New Year!
For those of you guys that don't know (or have been confused by the blonde hair), I'm actually 100% Chinese. I speak Mandarin & Cantonese, and my family is from Tai Shan in the Guangdong province. I haven't been back to China since I was 7. My memory of that trip was of rural China and a vague memory of holding onto my parents while I rode atop an ox. (Haha.)
I love being Chinese. I love the rich and fantastical aspect of Chinese history. Learning about the tales of the prince & princesses in the imperial palace was my childhood and it gave me a larger than life view of every day life. This is probably also why I'm so passionate about storytelling.
One of the things I also love about being Chinese is that we still celebrate the Lunar calendar. I like having another reset for the "New Year" because it gives me a chance to rethink my goals. Reflecting on the past year and making resolutions has been a habit of mine since I was 10. (To be honest, I'm kind of a freak when it comes to having a plan and setting goals.) But I think it's super important to do this because I use this as a metric for my growth at the end of the year.
Oddly enough, I think mostly because I've been traveling and working, I haven't officially written down my goals for this year yet.
So here they are:
New Year Goals:
1. Meet more people
After going freelance this year, I've met and worked with more people than I ever have in my life. It was both a very scary and exhilarating change. I think part of the reason I've been able to grow so rapidly is being exposed to new people and new experiences every day.
2. Grow my business
I haven't officially shared what my business is yet (even though I'm super excited to), and it's because I decided last month that I still need to learn more about the industry before I officially launch. I'm an extremely impatient person, but I'm learning that good things take time. But in the upcoming year, I definitely want to launch and grow.
& be kind. I don't think I would be here, writing to you guys about following your dreams, if it wasn't for all the people who's been kind enough to give me all the opportunities that I've had. So I want to do the same. I want to give back to the community and share more, love those around me fervently, and always be kind.
4. Continue to pursue authenticity
Last year I started the year having ended a 4-year relationship where I lost a part of myself, and I was in a deep need to seek after what was authentically me again. I'm happy to say that I've found myself 100%, and I want to continue seeking after what is true and authentic. I've lived the life of doing things because I thought it was what other people wanted, whether it was expectations from a boyfriend or social expectations, and this year I want to continue seeking after things that truly make me happy, like art & love.
5. Live more healthily (gym 4x a week, drink less, eat more greens and fruit, drink more water)
I started last year with no alcohol for January, so this year I thought I'd do that too. I like having a sober mind and eliminating alcohol from the equation on a stressful day. It keeps me focused and driven. If you guys watch my snaps, I try to make it a pretty regular habit of going to the gym, although these past few months my gym attendance have been totally abysmal. When I was younger it was a lot easier to just eat like total crap, drink like a camel, and not work out, but now that I'm older I'm definitely trying to be more conscientious about taking care of my body.
You literally only live once after all.
What are some of your guy's resolutions and how are you keeping up with it so far? Let me know in the comments! I love hearing from you guys!
